Encouraging users to bookmark your website, socially.

Written on August 18th 2007 at 11:37 pm by alex

As I told you in a previous post, StumbleUpon brought me almost 100,000 visitors over a two month period, and if you can harness that power plus the power of other social networks, you can go from unknown to well-known overnight. But sometimes you have to "remind" your readers to share this article with their friends or on their favorite social network. So let's look at the most-used social networks, and the easiest ways to get your content on there.

StumbleUpon
StumbleUpon is a good one for all the reasons I've stated before. Some people don't know if they should put a StumbleUpon link on their website, since StumbleUpon users can just click the "I like it" button in their toolbar. My response is: some people have quick-links in their toolbar to Digg Reddit and del.icio.us but that doesn't mean they'll always remember to bookmark or share your article. So it is still very beneficial having a StumbleUpon link in your article. To submit your article, just add a link to the following website, replacing the items in bold with your relevant information.

del.icio.us
del.icio.us has been around forever it seems like, and they were definitely the first major social bookmarking website to be adopted by the masses. It as fallen in popularity compared to Digg but it is still an extremely good source for new visitors, especially if you make it on their hot-list. Here is the link to submit your article to del.icio.us.

Reddit
Reddit popped up some time after Digg because, let's face it, Digg needed a little competition. It is a nice concept so hot stories don't have to wait hours to get on the front page, instead the stories rating it based on it's up votes and how long it's been on Reddit. Basically breaking stories are breaking, not a day old. By far more people use Digg, but Reddit is gaining more and more users daily. Here's how to submit your article to Reddit.

Digg
The "originator" of social networking. They took the idea of del.icio.us and expanded it to way beyond just social-bookmarking. They created an entire social news voting website that can also be used for bookmarking, but your vote still counts ;) Here is your link to submit to Digg.

The Bottom Line
You will see I've added links to all four of these websites under all of my articles. If you are an avid user of any of these social networks, and you find any of my articles helpful, help me out by sharing the article! You can put icons in-place of the text if you want, as it will grab the readers attention more than just a text link will. However you do it, it will pay off with more readers and more money in the bank. So submit this article to your favorite site and add some links to your website! - View comments...
