George Carlin died of heart failure

Written on Monday, June 23rd 2008 at 4:38 pm by alex

Last night, George Carlin checked into a California hotel complaining of chest pain. Just a few hours later, he died from heart failure. There have not been exact details released as of yet. George Carlin was 71 years old.

George was probably best known for his stand-up routine "7 words you can't say on TV". It was the result of a supreme court decision back in 1972 confirming the FCC has the right to censor certain words on television.

George Carlin's daughter had the following to say: "Most people know George Carlin as an icon of comedy and an advocate of free speech. I just know him as Dad... And what a dad he was. He taught me the value of speaking the truth in a world that doesn't always want to hear it and gave me the gift of laughter. He was loved and revered by so many and will be missed beyond words -- but never forgotten. Our family wishes to thank everyone who has sent love and support our way. Your kind words and thoughts are bringing much comfort to us during such a difficult time".

Mr. Carlin appeared on The Tonight Show more than 130 times, and performed eight HBO specials throughout his career. I'll leave you with the following quotes from the man himself. George, you will be missed.

"Death is caused by swallowing small amounts of saliva over a long period of time".

"Frisbeetarianism is the belief that when you die, your soul goes up on the roof and gets stuck. "
