Was John McCain tortured during Vietnam?
Written on Monday, June 23rd 2008 at 4:58 pm by alexTran Trong Duye is the man who ran the prison in Vietnam that John McCain said he was held as a POW and tortured. Mr. Duye said "If I was an American, I would vote for John McCain".
And while Mr. Duye admits to holding John McCain as a POW, he insists he never tortured any of his prisoners. "But I can confirm to you that we never tortured him. We never tortured any prisoners". Instead, Mr. Duye says he would summon John McCain to his offices and they would talk about the war, and debate whether it was right or wrong.
So is John McCain lying about his torture experience as a Vietnam POW? "He did not tell the truth", Duye says. "But I can somehow sympathize with him. He lies to American voters in order to get their support for his presidential election".
While it's hard to give a lot of credibility to this man, it's also hard not to listen to him. In his interview he seems very honest about most of the other things he talked about. John McCain's arms were broken before he was a POW, so maybe he considered that "torture", without actually being tortured by his captors.
